Lazard Hires Former Nigerian Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was hired as a senior adviser after the government of Goodluck Jonathan was voted out of office in an election earlier this year.

Investment bank Lazard has hired Nigeria’s former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for its business advising governments.

Lazard said in a statement on Monday. “She will bring a unique international expertise and experience that will benefit both our sovereign and corporate clients, ” Matthieu Pigasse, Lazard’s global head of mergers and acquisitions and sovereign advisory, said in the statement.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is best known for her two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria and for her work at the World Bank, including five years as one of its Managing Directors. She briefly held the position of Foreign Minister of Nigeria in 2006.

In 2007, Okonjo-Iweala was considered as a possible replacement for former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz. Subsequently, in 2012, she became one of three candidates in the race to replace World Bank President Robert Zoellick in June 2012.
