Steven Spielberg’s next project, the adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel Ready Player One, has a 2017 release date.
Now Ain’t It Cool News has a rumor that claims the director is trying to persuade beloved Gene Wilder out of retirement for one of his upcoming projects, which could either be Ready Player One or his animated adaptation The BFG.

In 2008, Gene Wilder announced his retirement but he hadn’t acted since 2003 episode of Will & Grace. His last film role was in Alice in Wonderland in 1999.
Since then, the actor has written some books, and has said that one of the only people who could get him to come out of retirement is director Mel Brooks with whom he worked in many wonderful movies such as The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. It’s just possible that Steven Spielberg could be another director who could persuade him out of retirement.
Spielberg may wants Wilder to provide a voice for animated character in The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant), based on Roal Dahl’s children’s book about a young girl who befriends a giant. Remember that one of Wilder’s most iconic roles was in Roald Dahl’s book Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Ain’t It Cool News speculates that Gene Wilder is being sought for the James Halliday role in this movie.
Ready Player One is another option, about Wade Watts, a teenager who escaping his sorrowful life into virtual reality, a networked utopia where users lead idyllic lives.
The game’s founder, James Halliday, dies and made his billion dollar fortune as the grand prize in an outlandish treasure hunt.
Watts competes against opponent video game players and rival who’ll do anything to reach the treasure.
We are waiting to see this great actor again, even for just a moment.
