Talia Lakritz’s New Video Mocks People Who Mock Orthodox Feminists

Talia Lakritz, a student at Barnard College in New York, has posted a funny video on line in which she details all of the annoying questions which people ask her about being a jewish feminist.

She published it on her own YouTube channel called nerdwithavoice.

Larkits plays both herself and people asking her the questions in the video. Her portrayals are right on the mark as so many orthodox women feel that feminism is incompatible with their religion. And orthodox men tend to condescend to women by telling them that while they must sit separately in the synagogue, cannot lead prayer services or be rabbis, they’re still somehow highly respected in the Jewish world and holier than men on some levels.

The questions from women include, “Why call it feminism? Why can’t you call it something less provocative?” and “I don’t want to read from the Torah, and I don’t understand why any women want to. So I don’t think any women should.”

A man says, “You’re too pretty to be a feminist.”
