Billionaire investor Bill Ackman has thrown his weight behind former hedge fund manager Whitney Tilson in the fiercely competitive Democratic primary for New York City mayor.
Ackman, the outspoken chief of Pershing Square Capital Management, took to social media platform X on Monday to make his endorsement, praising Tilson as a candidate who is “pro-business, against waste and divisive identity politics, and determined to restore New York City to its former greatness.”

“This is the candidate to watch. I have known Whitney Tilson since college,” Bill Ackman tweeted. “He has made a career of giving back. First employee of Teach for America, founded the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City with Michael Porter, has served on the board of Kipp Academy and the Pershing Square Foundation for 15 years plus and ran his own investment firm for a decade. Most recently he has been to Ukraine four times to deliver goods and help out.”
Echoing Donald Trump, Ackman went on to say that Tilson wants to “make NYC great again.”
“We don’t want NYC to become San Francisco or G-d forbid Los Angeles and Whitney can help save us,” he added. “He will inspire young super talented people to join his administration.”
