H2OLL Launches Groundbreaking Water-from-Air System in Israel’s Negev Desert

The technology, initially conceived as a prototype, draws water from the air, aims to have a global impact, especially in areas where water shortages are severe.

H2OLL is an Israeli water tech firm that is pioneering desert water extraction technologies. And the place in Israel best to develop such new tech is of course the Negev Desert in the south of the country. It has taken a significant step towards dealing with one of the pressing challenges in the world: access to clean drinking water.

This month the company launched its first full-scale water production system in Wadi Atir, a Bedouin community initiative in the Negev.

In many developing nations, bottled water dominates the drinking water market, leading to high costs and environmental concerns. Innovative water technologies can offer a more sustainable and reliable solution, benefiting both businesses and consumers.

A team of Technion experts, led by Professors Friedler and Broday, has successfully developed an innovative air-to-water system. The system is capable of producing 1,000 liters of water per day. While most water-to-air systems require about 10 grams of water vapor per kilogram of air, H2OLL’s system can function at half that amount.

The technology, initially conceived as a prototype, draws water from the air, aims to have a global impact, especially in areas where water shortages are severe.

The project stems from research at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and gained momentum with a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised millions.

H2OLL uses a unique absorption-desorption cycle to extract moisture from the air, even in low humidity conditions. It provides a reliable and cost-effective source of drinking water, reducing dependence on traditional water sources and minimizing environmental impact.
Global impact: H2OLL has the potential to make a significant difference in communities facing water scarcity around the world.

H2OLL is a spinoff from the Technion (IIT), a new propriety and innovative atmospheric moisture harvesting technology, capable of extracting moisture from the air by an absorption-desorption cycle. The new technology generates year-long pure and safe drinking water supply along with constant low energy requirements at all seasons and in any geographic area and time of the day.
