Intel introduced the Core Ultra 200V series Luna Lake, its most energy-efficient x86 processor to date. These processors, says the company, offer exceptional performance, groundbreaking power efficiency, a significant boost in graphics capabilities, seamless application compatibility, enhanced security, and unparalleled AI computing.

The launch came after Intel recently made cutbacks at its Israeli plants.

The technology will power the industry’s most comprehensive and advanced AI-enabled PCs, with over 80 consumer designs from more than 20 leading manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, and Samsung. Pre-orders are open now, and systems will be available globally at over 30 retailers starting September 24th.

All devices featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V processors and running the latest Windows version are eligible for a free Copilot+ PC update, starting in November.

Intel’s Lunar Lake processors are a series of high-performance, energy-efficient mobile CPUs designed for premium ultra-thin laptops. They are part of Intel’s Core Ultra 200V series and are built on the company’s Intel 7 process technology.

Lunar Lake processors offer hybrid architecture, they combine high-performance P-cores and energy-efficient E-cores for optimal performance and power consumption. They also offer a powerful neural processing unit for AI and machine learning tasks and an integrated graphics processor with improved performance and features.

Intel says Lunar Lake is expected to be a groundbreaking mobile processor for AI PCs with more than 3 times the AI performance compared with the previous generation. With more than 40 NPU tera operations per second (TOPS), Intel’s next generation processors will provide the capabilities necessary for Copilot+ experiences coming to market. In addition to the higher performing NPU, Lunar Lake will also be equipped with over 60 GPU TOPS delivering more than 100 platform TOPS.

“Intel’s newest Core Ultra processors set the industry standard for mobile AI and graphics performance, and smash misconceptions about x86 efficiency,” said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group. “Only Intel has the scale through our partnerships with ISVs and OEMs, and the broader technology ecosystem, to provide consumers with a no-compromise AI PC experience.”

“The launch of Lunar Lake will bring meaningful fundamental improvements across security, battery life, and more thanks to our deep co-engineering partnership with Intel. We are excited to see Lunar Lake come to market with a 40+ TOPS NPU which will deliver Microsoft’s Copilot+ experiences at scale when available,” said Pavan Davuluri, corporate vice president of Windows + Devices at Microsoft.
