Yahya Sinwar, the terrorist who masterminded the October 7 massacre in Israel, is the new leader of the terrorist organization Hamas. He succeeds Ismail Haniyeh who was killed in Iran last week.

The Hamas leadership elected Yahya Sinwar the terror organization’s new commander in absentia, from where they live in hiding and in luxury in Doha, the capital of Qatar, while they claim to represent millions of Palestinians who live in poverty in Gaza. Sinwar could not be there in person as he is currently hiding somewhere in a Hamas terror tunnel in Gaza as the Israeli military searches for him. Most of his senior lieutenants have been killed in strikes by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), which is looking to add him to that list.

Yahya Sinwar has no shame in claiming responsibility for the massacre of more than 1,200 innocent Israelis on October 7, 2023. That figure includes children, babies and even whole families, some of whom were burned alive.

Ismail Haniyeh, who lived in hiding in Qatar, was killed while staying in a special Tehran guest house as he visited Iran for the swearing-in ceremony for Iran’s new president Masoud Pezeshkian. Iranian officials said he was killed by a small bomb that was hidden in his room weeks earlier.

Israeli leaders reminded the world of these facts in their responses to the news of Sinwar’s appointment.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said in response to the news that, “The appointment of arch-terrorist Yahya Sinwar as the new leader of Hamas, replacing Ismail Haniyeh, is yet another compelling reason to swiftly eliminate him and wipe this vile organization off the face of the earth.”

IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari told Saudi Arabian publication Al-Arabiya in an interview, “Yahya Sinwar is a terrorist, who is responsible for the most brutal terrorist attack in history on October 7th. There is only one place for Sinwar, and that is beside Mohammed Deif [a Hamas leader killed in Gaza by the IDF] and the rest of the October 7th terrorists. That is the only place we’re preparing and intending for him.”

Director of the Digital Diplomacy Bureau, Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter, “This is another proof that there is no difference between the so called ‘political branch’ and the ‘terror branch’ of Hamas,” and her further pledged that Israel’s, “hunt for Sinwar will not stop until we catch him, dead or alive.”

Yahya Sinwar was born in 1962 in the Khan Younis refugee camp in Gaza. Sinwar has been involved with Hamas terrorism since its early days and is opposed to any peace deal with Israel and wants the country to simply cease to exist.
