The acquisition of Israeli startup Run:ai by Nvidia, a chip maker best known for its video/graphics cards, may be in trouble. According to a report in Politico, the U.S. Justice Department is investigating the acquisition of the Run:ai by semiconductor company Nvidia on “antitrust grounds.” Politico cited five different anonymous sources it said had “direct knowledge of the matter” in its story.
“Nvidia wins on merit, as reflected in our benchmark results and value to customers. We compete based on decades of investment and innovation, scrupulously adhering to all laws, making Nvidia openly available in every cloud and on-prem for every enterprise, and ensuring that customers can choose whatever solution is best for them,” Nvidia spokesperson Mylene Mangalindan said in response to the news. “We’ll continue to support aspiring innovators in every industry and market and are happy to provide any information regulators need.”
In April, Jewish Business News reported on Nvidia’s plans to acquire two Israeli startups: Run:ai and Deci AI. And yes, as their names imply they both deal with artificial intelligence. Run:ai was already bought out for an undisclosed amount, but Israel’s Calcalist reported that the deal could be for as much as $700 million and that a deal to acquire Deci AI was close at hand.
