A look at the homepage of the PopCrave website shows nothing but links to stories about pop entertainment.

Have you heard of PopCrave? How did you first find out about President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from this year’s presidential election? These days, it was probably through social media. But who made the post that you read? And, believe it or not, many people, including many influential people, first heard the news from posts made by the entertainment service PopCrave.

A look at the homepage of the PopCrave website shows nothing but links to stories about pop entertainment. Yet, apparently, people are now turning to the service’s social media accounts for breaking political news too.

“President Joe Biden has dropped from the presidential election,” was the simple post made by PopCrave, along with a picture of the President.

One hour later it declared, “Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris to be the Democratic pick for the presidential election.”

The Daily Beast’s Kevin Fallon wrote about how silly it was that he himself first heard about Joe Biden dropping out of the race in a post made by PopCrave.

“PopCrave was incredibly fast posting about Biden exiting the presidential race,” he said. “And, because of X’s algorithm, it is an account that is prioritized for me, a person who works in pop culture and whose social media interests skew heavily towards news about pop divas and problematic celebrities. So when I opened my X app on Sunday, the first post on my feed was from PopCrave. But instead of an urgent update on what celebs attended Taylor Swift’s latest concert, it was a post about the most consequential news on the future of this country that has happened in my lifetime.”

Founded by Will Cosme in December 2015, PopCrave is a media and news company known for delivering the latest celebrity gossip and pop culture updates across various social media platforms. They’re particularly popular on Twitter and Instagram, where their frequent posts often go viral.

The service focuses on entertainment news, including celebrity relationships, music releases, movie and TV show updates, and more recently, some national news. They have a strong presence on Twitter and Instagram, along with a TikTok account and their website features entertainment news articles, exclusive interviews, and music charts.

PopCrave also tweeted, “Donald Trump donated $5,000 to re-elect Kamala Harris for California Attorney General in 2011. According to public records, he made an additional donation of $1,000 in 2013.”
