A smartphone for the deaf? Why not in this day and age? Nagish is a new Israeli startup offering just that with a new revolutionary type of app. To that end, Nagish just raised $16 million in a Series A led by Canaan Partners to transform communication for over a billion people with hearing loss.

Is there anything that Israel Startup Nation can’t do?

Nagish is the Hebrew word for “Accessible” and the company says that its mission is to make communication more accessible for everyone, including the deaf.

“We believe that everyone should have the right to use a phone without having someone listen to their private calls,” says the firm. “Nagish gives its users full ownership of their calls by converting text-to-speech and speech-to-text in real-time so that one side of a phone call can type and read while the other side can hear and speak.”

Nagish goes beyond a phone app, offering real-time conversation support for the deaf and hard of hearing. With features like voice modulation and captioning, it empowers users to participate fully in calls and personal interactions, all while keeping communication private and secure.

Nagish is designed to replace native phone apps and includes voice modulation features, making it a comprehensive communication tool for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. By empowering people with hearing loss to follow conversations in real time, Nagish enhances personal interactions and improves accessibility while keeping calls private and secure.

Imagine a world where communication is effortless, seamlessly woven into every aspect of your life, from personal connections to professional success. Nagish is designed to be that bridge. This new investment fuels our pursuit of groundbreaking products and relentless innovation. With Nagish, we’re bringing the power of barrier-free communication to more people around the globe.

Soon enough an Israeli startup like Nagish will be offering a special smartphone or computer/tablet for the blind. And then there will be something for people who are both deaf and blind. This is no joke. The technology is really on its way.
