Iran Attacks Israel: More Than 200 Missiles Launched

Israelis woke up Sunday morning in the wake of an Iranian attack overnight which saw more than 300 missiles and Drones launched against the State of Israel by the Islamic Republic at the Jewish State. But most probably did not sleep much since air raid sirens sounded across the nation throughout the night. Even the Jerusalem area was targeted.

This marked the first time that Iran launched a direct attack on the State of Israel. Until now, the country has attacked Israel through proxies such as the terrorist organization Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon.

The American military aided in the efforts to shoot down Iranian missiles before they even reached Israeli air space and within the country itself Israel’s vaunted Iron Dome missile defense systems did the rest.

So far, the only injury related to the attack reported in all of Israel was to a 10-year-old Arab Bedouin boy.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman Daniel Hagari issued a statement Sunday morning saying that the IDF intercepted 99% of the threats launched into the territory of the State of Israel.

“This is a very significant strategic achievement,” said Hagari.

Out of about 170 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) that Iran launched at Israel, not a single one penetrated Israeli air space.

Out of more than 130 cruise missiles that Iran launched at Israel, not a single one penetrated Israeli air space and 25 of them were intercepted by Israel Air Force fighter jets outside the country’s borders.

The IDF also reported that out of more than 120 ballistic missiles that Iran launched at Israel, only a few fell on Israeli territory. They fell at the Air Force base in Nevatim; however, the IDF said the base is functioning and continues to perform its tasks. The Nevatim Airbase is located in the Negev near Be’er Sheva.

During the time of the attack, U.S. President Joe Biden spoke on the telephone with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Biden reportedly told Netanyahu that the U.S. does not support an Israeli retaliation against Iran.

President Biden said he told Netanyahu that Israel demonstrated a “remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks – sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel.”

The White House issued a statement saying that “to support the defense of Israel” the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week.

“Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our service members, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles,” it said.

President Biden said that on Sunday he will convene the G7 leaders to “coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack” and pledged that his team will engage with their counterparts across the region and will stay in close touch with Israel’s leaders.”

Israel reopened the country’s airspace to air traffic as well as its airports as of 7:30 Sunday morning. Air traffic was suspended Saturday in anticipation of the attack.
