Filmmaker Jonathan Glazer, who is Jewish, was the only one at Sunday night’s 96th Academy Awards Oscar ceremony to speak about the war in Gaza. He made a comment critical of Israel, even going so far as to compare the war to the Holocaust when accepting this year’s Oscar for Best International Film.
Jonathan Glazer seemed to ramble when he said, “All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present — not to say, ‘Look what they did then,’ rather, ‘Look what we do now.’ Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst. It shaped all of our past and present.”
It is not clear what exactly Glazer meant by these words. But it seems that he was referring to a need for people to oppose Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza.

But if there was any doubt whether or not Jonathan Glazer sits in the “blame Israel” camp, it was dispelled when he added that he rejected, “Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation, which has led to conflict for so many innocent people.”
The statement that the Holocaust was “hijacked by an occupation” was clearly intended to echo the long-standing anti-Israel propaganda which states falsely that Israel was only created because of the Holocaust. And it also implied that Israel uses the memory of the Holocaust to justify any and all of its actions while also being guilty of carrying one out against the Palestinians.
“Whether the victims of October the seventh in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?” added Jonathan Glazer.
“Resist”?
Equating the barbaric October 7 Hamas terror massacre in which both men and women were sexually assaulted, numerous people were burned alive in their own homes, including children, and even the elderly were taken to Gaza as hostages with Israel’s response to the attack is not only false, but another example of how Israel haters cloud the issues.
The Zone of Interest is the most recent film by director Jonathan Glazer. It’s a historical drama film released in 2023 and has garnered significant critical acclaim. It’s a disturbing exploration of evil, focusing on the true story of Rudolf Höss, the commandant of Auschwitz, and his wife Hedwig. The film depicts their seemingly normal family life existing right next to the horrors of the concentration camp.
So, Jonathan Glazer used a movie about the Holocaust to attack Israel.
