Finland is the happiest country in the world. So says the World Happiness Report for 2023. Finland received a score of 7.804.
Some might find this hard to believe, After all, it is mostly dark there half of the year and freezing cold too. And most people don’t even think of Finland when they talk about these things. And neighboring Denmark took second place on the list, followed by fellow icy county Switzerland in third.
So the question is why? How is it that people in Finland are so happy?

Finnish psychology researcher and philosopher Frank Martela thinks that he has the answer. Martela told CNBC’s Make It, “It would be more accurate to say that Finland is the country that has the least unhappy people in the world.”
And why is that? Well, Martela said it is because the country has a strong sense of community and relatedness, its people do “good deeds for other people” and they find a “clear purpose” for themselves.
“Having people around you who care about you, and whom you care about, makes people happy,” Martela said. “Luckily, that can be true even in very dire material conditions.”

There are also a lot of beautiful things about Finland.
Finland is known as the “Land of a Thousand Lakes” for a reason. With over 187,888 lakes, it boasts the most lakes of any country in Europe and the 15th most in the world. These lakes are a vital part of Finnish culture and identity, providing opportunities for recreation, fishing, and transportation.
Finland consistently ranks top in international education rankings, known for its innovative and equitable education system. Also, due to its northern location, Finland offers some of the best views of the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, in the world.
Finland is a beautiful country with a rich history, culture, and stunning natural landscapes. It is definitely worth considering for your next travel destination.
