Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in a lot of political hot water these days. With the failure to prevent, or even be prepared, for the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023, a new poll shows that Netanyahu has a mere 15% support among Israeli voters.
And this poll was conducted before the Supreme Court of Israel’s ruling on Monday striking down one of the Benjamin Netanyahu government’s most important pieces of legislation, the “Reasonableness Law” limiting the Courts’ powers.
The 15% figure represents the total number of Israelis who would like to see Benjamin Netanyahu elected again as prime minister. But Netanyahu does not need to worry about standing for reelection for another three years, that is, as long as he can keep his coalition together.

Also working in Benjamin Netanyahu’s favor is the fact that he does not need to win a majority of the vote, nor does he even need for his party to win the most votes in an election. Israel’s government is formed by a majority of the members of its Parliament – the Knesset – and is always comprised of a coalition of parties. So, as long as enough of the parties who support Netanyahu can receive a majority of the seats in the next Knesset elections – whenever they will be – he can form another government again.
But the bad news for Netanyahu is that the same poll shows his biggest political enemy, Benny Gantz, has 55% support in the public to be Israel’s next Prime Minister.
Benny Ganz was both an IDF Chief of Staff and a Defense Minister. He was also a senior leader in the opposition, but joined the government’s special war cabinet after the October 7 attack as a minister without portfolio.
The new poll was conducted by the Viterbi Center for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy of the Israel Democracy Institute.
Also, only 25% of all Israelis believe that Benjamin Netanyahu would win the next elections in Israel, whenever they are held.
