An American woman is pregnant twice at the same time. What is so strange about this, though, is that we are not talking about twins here, at least not in the traditional sense. This woman’s body is unusual, to say the least, as it has a double uterus. And now she is pregnant in each one individually.
Kelsey Hatcher, a 32 year old woman from Alabama, was born with two uteri. And now she is expecting twin girls.

A double uterus, also known as uterus didelphys, is a congenital malformation of the uterus in which a woman has two separate uteri. This condition is present at birth and affects approximately 1 in 5,000 women.
A rare condition, the double uterus is caused by an incomplete fusion of the Müllerian ducts during fetal development. The Müllerian ducts are two tubes that eventually join to form the uterus, fallopian tubes, and cervix. In women with uterus didelphys, the ducts do not completely fuse, resulting in two separate uteri.
And the Mayo Clinic explains sometimes the tubes don’t join completely. Instead, each one develops into a separate organ. A double uterus may have one opening into one vagina. This opening is called the cervix. In other cases, each uterus has its own cervix. Often, there’s also a thin wall of tissue that runs down the length of the vagina. This divides the vagina in two, with two separate openings.
Women who have a double uterus often have successful pregnancies. But the condition can make you more likely to have a miscarriage or premature birth.
As for Kelsey Hatcher, who already has three young children, she is not interested in the notoriety that he pregnancy brings with it.
“I’m typically not one that, like likes a lot of attention and doesn’t want people to be talking about all my stuff. And so, to be this rare and kind of out there, I’m like, oh my gosh, there’s a lot,” Kelsey Hatcher told local Alabama NBC 13 television.
