The Israel Police reported that as of Tuesday only 859 of the innocent civilians who were massacred in the October 7th Hamas attack have been identified. This is out of the more than 1,200 people who were murdered including entire families and even babies. Also, Israeli forces had a big victory on Monday, taking control of a variety of Hamas government and administrative buildings in Gaza.
Part of the reason why the identification process is taking so long – only sixteen more bodies of victims were identified over the past six days – is related to the gruesome nature of the Hamas attacks. The barbarity includes burning people, including children, alive. Many bodies were so charred that it was hard to find remnants that could be identified with DNA testing and teams are still combing the area that was attacked for victims’ remains.
Hundreds of the dead still need to be formally identified and there are also bodies that have not yet been found.

The unhappy and demanding work of the identification process is being conducted in a joint activity of the Israel Police, the IDF, the Ministry of Health, the Pathological Institute for Forensic Medicine, and volunteer organizations at a facility located at the IDF’s Shura camp.
Thousands of police officers and specialists have been working in shifts since the outbreak of war, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in the difficult work of identification of the victims, using advanced technological means, to carry out a complete identification process.
As for the latest success of the IDF, in the last few days, special forces from its 7th armored brigade and the Golani Infantry Brigade operated in the Gaza City neighborhoods of Sheikh Ejalin, Rimal, where they raided government institutions belonging to Hamas. However, these places are in actuality used as bases for terrorist activities.
The buildings taken included the Hamas parliament building, the Hamas police headquarters, and an engineering faculty at a school that served as an institute for the production and development of weapons.
The IDF forces also captured the “Gizat” facility, which contains training resources of Hamas, operations headquarters, interrogation and detention facilities. Weapons and Hamas training and study materials were also found there.
In addition, the Golani Brigade’s forces raided the Governor’s House building in Gaza, which was used as a terrorist base and holds the military and police offices of Hamas, as well as the offices of its military intelligence, and other locations including ones that were used for training the terrorists ahead of the Black Shabbat October 7th massacre carried in Israeli towns located near Gaza.
