Out of the 25 biggest American philanthropists – the mega wealthy who gave a lot of money to charity – in the year 2023, 8 are Jews. This is according to a list prepared by Insider Monkey that includes top names like Michael Bloomberg and Mark Zuckerberg.
(Insider Monkey did not list the dollar amounts donated to charity but gave each an individual score based on the percentage of wealth given away:
A philanthropy score of 1 means 1% of wealth is given away.
A score of 2 means 1% to 4.99% of wealth is given away.
A score of 3 means 5% to 9.99% of wealth is given away.
A score of 4 means 10% to 19.99% of wealth is given away.
A score of 5 means more than 20% of the wealth is given away.)
At number one on the list – 4th place overall – is Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City and billionaire with a score of 4 and an estimated net worth of $96.3 Billion.

Hedge fund billionaire and owner of the Major League Baseball team the New York Mets Steve Cohen is the third Jewish philanthropist on the list – 11th overall. He had a score of 3 and has an estimated net worth of $19.8 Billion.
Steve Cohen is the founder of Point72 Asset Management, a $30.6 billion hedge fund firm.
Leonard Lauder, the chairman emeritus of Estée Lauder, came in fourth – 14th overall – with a score of 3 and an estimated net worth of $14.2 Billion.

He is the chairman emeritus of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., a publicly traded cosmetics company founded by his parents, Estée Lauder and Joseph Lauder, in 1946. Lauder is the sole heir to the Estée Lauder fortune, which is estimated to be worth over $35 billion.
And at fifth place among the Jews on the list – 17th overall – was Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg with a score of 2 and an estimated net worth of $109.5 Billion.
Recently, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan donated a $250 million prize to Shana Kelley and her team, to support their development in the biotech sector.
The other three top Jewish philanthropists were Google co-founder Sergey Brin – 18th overall – with a score of 2 and a net worth of $109.4 Billion, Microsoft co-founder Steve Balmer – 19th overall – with a score of 2 and a net worth of $99.7 Billion and finally casino magnate Sheldon Adelson’s widow Miriam Adelson – 25th on the list – had a score of 2 and a net worth of $31.3 Billion.
