Daniel Lurie, the heir to the Levi Strauss fortune, is running for mayor of San Francisco as a Democrat. The 46-year-old will go up against the incumbent mayor Mayor London Breed in the 2024 elections.

‘I am running for Mayor of San Francisco to bring a new era of leadership that this moment demands,” declared Daniel Lurie in his campaign pitch. Lurie went on to say that he has a “proven track record of building diverse teams, challenging bureaucracy and political obstacles, and delivering results.”

“We are facing a crisis of leadership,” said Daniel Lurie. “This moment demands a new era of leadership from the outside.”

“Our kids have come to a place where they’re inured,” he added. “It’s almost like they accept it, which is not OK.”

“We are in a crisis, and we are hurting right now,” Daniel Lurie told Politico. “We need people to work together, and the only way you can take on an entrenched system with a leader that has allowed these problems to fester is with new leadership. It’s got to be leadership from the outside.”

Daniel Lurie told the New York Times that he intended to campaign on solving San Francisco’s quality-of-life problems, and that he blames Mayor Breed for doing too little to tackle them.

However, Maggie Muir, a spokeswoman for Mayor Breed’s campaign, dismissed these criticsms telling the Times, “Mayor Breed is working every day to make San Francisco safer and cleaner. Why should we trust a beginner to accomplish these things faster?”

Daniel Lurie is an American philanthropist and businessman. He is the founder and former CEO of Tipping Point Community, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of low-income people in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Lurie was born and raised in San Francisco in a Jewish family. He attended the Town School for Boys and University High School in San Francisco. He graduated with a B.A. in political science from Duke University.

After graduating from college, Lurie worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. He then founded Tipping Point Community in 2002. Tipping Point Community has raised and donated over $1 billion to over 1,000 nonprofit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization has helped to improve the lives of over 1 million people in the region.

In 2015, Daniel Lurie stepped down as CEO of Tipping Point Community to focus on other philanthropic and business ventures. He is currently a partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. He is also a member of the board of directors of several companies, including Salesforce, Slack, and Uber.

Daniel Lurie is a recipient of the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. He has also been named one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” by Time magazine.
