Elon Musk, the controversial founder of Tesla and owner of Twitter – is anyone really calling it ‘X’ – is now, so it seems, at war with Jewish leaders from around the world. 147 Jewish leaders signed on to an open letter condemning Musk for allowing the proliferation of antisemitism on Twitter. The group calls itself “X Out Hate.”
“As Jewish leaders of all backgrounds, current and former leaders of Jewish organizations, artists, and activists from all over the country,” reads the letter, “we have watched in horror as a new stage in antisemitic discourse has spread like wildfire on one of America’s largest social media networks. All of this has been facilitated and enabled by its owner: Elon Musk.”
The letter went on to charge that Twitter has made “fringe figures mainstream, spread conspiracy theories that endanger Jews, reinstated neo-Nazis and other antisemites, and destroyed the content moderation that once kept things like Holocaust denial and hate speech minimized,” all under Musk’s leadership.

In 2022 Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion. Since then, he has reversed the company’s policies on censoring hate speech and this is what the ADL has criticized.
The authors also state that Elon Musk allowed the spread of overt antisemitism on Twitter, such as the false idea that “65% of Jewish college students support censorship, and has promoted anti-Semitic accounts
As such, the signatories called on all companies and governmental organizations engaged in business with Elon Musk to end their relationships with his various companies.
“Partnering with a man who spreads neo-Nazi ideology should be the exact opposite of what they stand for,” they said.
At the beginning of the month, Elon Musk threatened to sue the Andti Defmation League because… who knows. Specifically, Musk is accusing the ADL of causing his Twitter to lose advertising money because the group has been protesting the social media for allowing the proliferation of anti-Semitic and racist posts.
Elon Musk charged that the ADL is “trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic.” He also alleged that Twitter’s US advertising revenue is down 60%, “primarily due to pressure on advertisers by @ADL (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!”
