Israeli defense exports have doubled in less than a decade and increased by 50% in 3 years. In June, the Director General of the Israel Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir and Director of the IMOD International Defense Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT), Brig. Gen. (Res.) Yair Kulas, announced a record $12.546 billion in Israeli defense exports for the year of 2022. Around one-quarter of the agreements signed in 2022 were for UAVs and drones – the latest biggest thing.

Israel Aerospace Industries: 2022 ‘Best Year Since Inception’ With $5 Billion In Sales
In March, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) – a major defense contractor – reported almost $5 billion in sales for 2022. This, said IAI, made last year its best since the company’s inception.
Some observers cited the ongoing war in Ukraine as one of the reasons for the increase. $4.3 Billion Arrow Missile Sale to Germany Got U.S. Approval
In August, the $4.3 billion deal to sell Israel’s Arrow-3 missile, part of Israel’s vaunted Iron Dome missile defense system, to Germany, the largest such defense deal in Israel’s history, was approved by the U.S. government. American approval is required for any deal involving the sale of Iron Dome related technologies because the U.S. is partnered with Israel in its development.

Elbit Systems Awarded $410 Million Romanian Contract
Last December, Elbit Systems Ltd. was awarded a framework contract with a maximum value of approximately $410 million (approximately 1.89 billion Romanian Lei) to supply up to seven “Watchkeeper X” tactical unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, with a validity of five years. No specific purchase order under the contract was awarded yet.
The Watchkeeper X UAS is the UK export variant of the British army made by UAV Tactical Systems Limited (“U-TacS”), Elbit Systems’ UK subsidiary, and is a derivative of the Hermes UAS family. Israel Ministry of Defense Inaugurated First-Ever National Pavilion At Abu Dhabi Defense Exhibition
For the first time in history, in February Israel had its own pavilion at the Abu Dhabi Defense Exhibition in the United Arab Emirates. The Israel Ministry of Defense inaugurated the first-ever national pavilion at the “IDEX” defense exhibition. The ministry said that the participation in IDEX was part of joint efforts to “strengthen defense relations” with the Abraham Accords countries.
