Rafael Advanced Defense Systems revealed its new hypersonic advanced missile interceptor named “Sky Sonic.” The company declared that “Sky Sonic” is a “groundbreaking” defensive response to the growing threat of hypersonic missiles. What Rafael calls a “revolutionary system” will be officially unveiled for the first time at the Paris Air Show, one of the world’s largest aerospace exhibitions, opening next week.
The importance of new ant-missile technologies is growing by the day. Israel has already had a great deal of success with its vaunted “Iron Dome” anti-missile defense system. The system is so efficient that European nations are looking to Israel for help in their national defenses. Already this week, Jewish Business News reported on how the government of Germany is looking to acquire Israel’s Arrow-3 missile, part of the Iron Dome missile system from IAI for a reported 4 billion Euros ($4.3 billion).
This is largely due to concerns raised by the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Other European nations fear possible Russian aggression in the future.

The Iron Dome proved its effectiveness in shooting down missiles and rockets in a number of recent conflicts such as Israel’s “Operation Shield and Arrow” in May when it shot down more than a thousand missiles launched at civilian targets in Israel out of Gaza by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization.
But those were short range missiles. What about Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) and supersonic missiles?
Iran has already revealed a new supersonic missile the country claims can travel at a speed of 15 times the speed of sound. Iran’s ally North Korea continues to develop new missile technologies.
Even if the Iranian missiles cannot fly as fast as claimed, at short ranges any supersonic missile is hard to intercept. So, Israeli firms like Rafael Advanced Defense Systems must continue to work at developing an adequate reply.
The Sky Sonic interceptor, says Rafael, represents a major technological leap in hypersonic missile defense. Designed with exceptional maneuverability and high-speed capabilities, it effectively neutralizes hypersonic missiles, which travel at ten times the speed of sound, with unmatched precision and stealth. RAFAEL’s booth at the Paris Air Show will showcase the interceptor, highlighting the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of air defense technology.
Major General Yoav Har Even, CEO of Rafael “We are coming to the air show with RAFAEL’s vast and impressive portfolio that includes systems that are at the forefront of technology. We at RAFAEL believe that even the seemingly impossible can be done. We have proven this in the past and will continue to prove it in the future. The orders for these systems are breaking records and for the first time we stand on a backlog of orders of over 40 billion NIS and alongside the activity as a successful global business company, RAFAEL continues to be a significant pillar in the security of the State of Israel.”
