Israel’s Pulsenmore’s Tech Powering First Ever Virtual Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital

From PulseNmore video

Technology developed by Pulsenmore, an Israeli medtech firm that offers a home ultrasound device for use by pregnant women, is being used by Sheba Beyond in its new venture – the world’s first virtual department of gynecology and obstetrics. Sheba Beyond is a branch of Sheba Hospital, the largest hospital in Israel and ranked amongst the top 10 best hospitals in the world.

Sheba Beyond manages over 130 virtual clinics and over 1,300 clinical staff in a variety of fields who process hundreds of virtual visits daily. During the COVID crisis, Sheba Beyond’s experts — oncologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, GIs, dieticians, and more — provided over 50,000 consultations for patients in Israel and worldwide.

By using the Pulsenmore home ultrasound solution, Sheba Beyond can monitor pregnant women without the need for in person visits to a hospital.

Dr. Avi Tsur, Director of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Sheba Beyond, said, “This is a significant change in the patient’s journey. Our main goal is to allow women to continue their daily routines, develop their careers, achieve their goals, and enjoy their family time while receiving the best standard of pregnancy care.”

Founded in 2015, PulseNmore is based in Omer, Israel. Three years ago, PulseNmore launched its handheld ultrasound device that enables pregnant women to perform at home ultrasound scans, and receive feedback from a physician or sonographer. This was done in cooperation with Israel’s largest health care organization Clalit which provides health plans to more than 4 million Israelis. Clalit signed a multiyear agreement to provide home ultrasound devices to thousands of women.

The Pulsenmore home ultrasound technology, is a CE-certified self-scan ultrasound for at-home use and remote clinical care, prescribed by clinicians and complementary to routine ultrasound checkups. It allows for a continuum of care for fetal well-being from the pregnant woman’s home. The self- scans are sent for remote review and interpretation by clinicians who can interact with patients asynchronously or in real-time, reducing the need for an in-clinic visit.

So here’s the deal. You are a pregnant woman with a lot to do. You are also in the later months of pregnancy and it’s harder to get around so you need someone to take you to the hospital for your checkup. You don’t have the time or the money for cabs and your health plan has limited you to only a few paid ultrasounds, or worse, you have no health insurance.

So what do you do? You take out your PulseNmore device and give yourself an ultrasound. And then you send the results to your doctor who gives you an assessment. And you don’t even have to own it. You can just rent or borrow one.

The PulseNmore medical device works by connecting with a user’s smartphone. It employs advanced navigation and AI tools with an app to guide users through the scanning process, displaying and sharing high-quality images with their healthcare professionals. Physicians or sonographers can then review the scans later on or observe the patient as she uses the device from their offices. Then they can instruct them on appropriate next steps, if necessary.

It’s like having Dr. McCoy’s tricorder.
