The hit Amazon show “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has completed filming its fifth and final season. And, according to one of the show’s stars Michael Zegen, when they finished the last scene there were plenty of tears to go around.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which premiered in 2017 for live streaming on Amazon Prime, is based loosely on the real life story of Joan Rivers. On the show, Rachel Brosnahan (who isn’t Jewish) plays Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a Jewish housewife in New York whose marriage breaks up at the start of the 1960s. After the breakup, Maisel pursues a new career as a standup comic. (In real life Joan Rivers did not get divorced.)
Michael Zegen, who plays Midge’s ex-husband Joel Maisel spoke about the end of the show in an interview with the New York Post’s Page Six.

Zegan told the publication that there were “a lot of tears” when the cast completed filming the final episode of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
“I definitely cried,” he added. “It actually took me by surprise. All these memories start playing back.”
“I mean, this was a big part of my life,” said Zegen, 43, “and I love the people involved and we’re like a family, so it was sad.”
“We had wrapped at four in the morning,” added Zegan, “so we were all exhausted. It was a very long week and we were all there every day, all week long, and we were there to support each other. So, it was just very emotional.”
Michael Zegan also spoke about what items from his wardrobe he was able to buy when the show wrapped. “I took home a few of my shoes that I thought were really cool and a lot of ties that are vintage and just random stuff, like sweaters and jackets that they made for me.”
Zegan, unlike Brosnahan, is Jewish. And so is Kevin Pollak who plays his character’s father Moishe Maisel. Emmy Award and Tony Award winning actor Tony Shalhoub, however, who plays Midge’s father Abe Weissman, is not Jewish. His family came from Lebanon.
Amazon has not yet revealed when the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will premiere.
