Google Cloud Region in Israel is now open

Google Cloud Israel

Google has opened a new Google Cloud region for Israel. The Google Cloud region in Tel Aviv (me-west1), joins the company’s network of cloud regions around the world.

It certainly makes sense that Google would open up a Google Cloud service just for Israel. Sure, the country does not have such a big population. But that is not the real factor here.

Israel is not called Startup Nation for nothing. The country is exploding with business activity and with all of that comes a demand for more and more server capacities, and computer brain functions. And everything is moving into the cloud these days. More and more businesses are taking advantage of cloud computing to host their servers. Israel is even adding new server farms to fill the need of greater cloud computing.

And then there is all of the SaaS – software as a service. Google docs is just one example of this. And Microsoft is promoting online versions of its popular Office block of programs to be used instead of installing software on a computer. In part, all of this is being done because it will be harder to pirate the software as so many people do.

All of this new activity has created new demand for security along with it. So Startup Nation also has new firms that deal with this problem. For example, Cymulate is an Israeli cybersecurity startup that offers a SaaS-based Continuous Security Validation platform.

Last year, Google Cloud was selected by the Israeli government to provide cloud services to government ministries. Google stated that this partnership can enable the government, and private companies operating in regulated industries, to simplify the way in which users are served, create a uniform approach to digital security, and support compliance and residency requirements.

“With Google Cloud we are changing the way millions of people read and write, by serving our own Large Language Models on top of the most advanced GPU platform that offers unparalleled performance, availability and elasticity,” said Ori Goshen, CEO, AI21 Labs.

“PayBox is supervised by the Bank of Israel and is completely hosted in the cloud. Google Cloud provides us with the tools needed to meet regulatory compliance and security obligations as well as the flexibility and agility to serve the millions of customers that rely on our app every day,” said Dima Levitin, CIO, Paybox.
