The rent is too damn high! That was both the name of a political party and the mantra of New York State gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan back in 2010? Now an apartment in New York City is going for $2,200 a month along with a shower in the living room.
That’s right! This apartment comes with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and even a nice fireplace in the living room. And it also offers a nice little shower right there in the middle of the living room. Oh, and the toilet, thank God, is located in an actual bathroom, albeit a tiny one.
Well, at least there is a shower. So the tenant does not have to go somewhere else to shower. And, believe it or not, with the high cost of living in New York, especially in Manhattan, this apartment is actually a steal.

A video of the apartment has gone viral on TikTok. It was posted by al-estate agent Claudia Degteva with the caption, “When you pay $2,200 [per month] and have to shower in the living room.”

Here are some of the comments:
“Next time they will put a toilet right next to the stove.”
“New York can’t keep getting away with these god awful apartment layouts ???? were the architects drunk.”
“Why does anyone bother glamorizing NY anymore we all know they’re packed in like a pez dispenser for thousands of dollars a month.”
“Who is planning the layout in NYC buildings. it’s literally just anarchy snd inconvenience. why are they doing this?”
But maybe this was all deliberate. Maybe this is the start of a new social trend, what with the spread of diseases like Covid. A guest comes over for a visit, first maker him shower. Make the shower open in view of the host so that he can be sure that the person actually does wash everywhere.
