The best Olympics in Israeli history: Israeli athletes return with 4 medals 2 gold

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics finally ended, in August 2021, Well it was worth the wait for Israel, as the country came away with its best Olynmpic showing in the country’s history. Israel sent the largest Olympic delegation in its history to Tokyo ,- 90 athletes – including a baseball team for the first time. The baseball team did not get a medal, but the Israelis brought home a record four medals this time, including two gold.

Linoy Ashram arrived in Tokyo with high expectations, but she was met by two Russian gymnasts who demonstrated throughout their nation’s determination to win. They were allowed to compete in spite of the fact that Russia was banned from the games as a nation for violating Olympic doping rules.

Linoy had a shaky start in the qualifiers, with the hoop falling off at the end of the first exercise, but she has since completed flawless exercises, including in the final. That performance earned her a historic gold medal, ending Russia’s hegemony in this field. Nicole Zelikman, who finished seventh, demonstrated that Israeli gymnastics has a lot of depth and quality.

Artium Dolgofiat, Floor Exercise, Gymnastic, Gold Medal

Gymnastics’ Artium Dolgofiat Artium Dolgofiat arrived in Tokyo with the expectation of bringing home a historic medal for Israel in gymnastics.

Dolgofiat advanced to the finals and won Israel’s first gold medal in that field. He has previously indicated that he intends to return to Paris 2024.

Avishag Samberg, Taekwondo, Bronze Medal

Avishag Samberg earned a bronze medal in Taekwondo on the games’ opening day, a field in which Israel had never had Olympic success. Samberg, who had previously stated her goal of competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, used the “Corona Year” to bolster her strength, and she arrived in Tokyo prepared.

Judo Team, Bronze Medal

The Israel judo team won a historic bronze team medal. Only 12 countries have competed in the Olympics with judo teams.

Swimming

The biggest surprises in the games were provided by the swimming team. After a bad Olympics in Rio 2016, a structural change was made in the field in Israel.

Israel sent 13 male and female swimmers – led by the European 200m individual medley champion, only 17-year-old Anastasia “Nastiya” Gorbenko, who reached the the100-meter backstroke final. Gorbanko recorded two more semi-finals appearances to her credit.

The Apostles 4 doubles 100 mixed men and women team won the second final.
Aviv Barzilai was also a semi-finalist.


Matan Roditi finished fourth in the 10 km open water swim and was only 23 seconds behind third place.

Archery
Itai Shani opened the Olympic Games for Israel, being ranked only 60th out of 64 in the archery qualifiers. Despite this, Shani defeated the 5th and 12th-ranked opponents en route to the quarterfinals, where he dropped only one final gold arrow against a Taipei opponent.Olympics
