Oracle to Open Israel Data Center This Summer

The new center will be in Jerusalem.

Oracle Israel’s new data center is expected to now open by the summer of 2021. The new center is currently being built in Jerusalem’s Har Hotzvim high-tech park. This is an area on the north side of town which has been lined by a group of large office buildings that house many startups and foreign companies going back thirty years. The new center will cost 1 Billion New Israeli shekels, about $300 million.

Oracle Senior Vice President UK, Israel and Benelux Richard Petley confirmed the news with a post on LinkedIn. “I’m pleased to confirm that we’re well underway with building our new data region in #Israel and we’ve made excellent progress since construction started in early 2021,” he wrote. “We’re on track to go-live later this summer, giving customers access to our secure #cloud infrastructure and broad range of integrated applications. Thanks to the team locally for making this promise to Israel a concrete reality!”

In February, Oracle revealed that it had chosen Jerusalem for the location of its new underground data center. The new center will provide numerous cloud services to many companies and will be developed by Israel’s Bynet Data Communications, a provider of end-to-end integration solutions and services.

The services to be offered include Oracle Autonomous Database, Kubernetes, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, Oracle OCI services and Oracle Fusion Cloud applications to a broad range of customers. The new underground facility will encompass thousands of square meters of space.

“This is an important step toward the upcoming opening of the Oracle Israel East Cloud region,” said Uzi Navon, Oracle’s Israel country leader, at the time. “With the new Cloud region in the capital city of Israel, Oracle is once again proving its commitment to the State of Israel and to Israeli customers and ensures a second-generation cloud infrastructure with the strongest performance at the highest level of security.”
