OutSense AI Tech Can Test Your Poop for Medical Issues

Israeli startup OutSense takes Startup Nation down the toilet, so to speak.

OutSense-IoT-device

OutSense, a new Israeli company, has developed a device which can be attached to any toilet bowl. This device can then be used to test a person’s fecal matter for certain types of diseases. In other words, it’s an at home excrement medical test.

Startup Nation is number one!

Now let that sink in for a moment. You heard right – there can be a way for you to find out if you are suffering from certain types of illnesses by conducting an at home test on your own poo. Evidence of diseases like colorectal cancer, dehydration, urinary tract infections, constipation and other stomach disorders could be found by testing your own feces.

Are you worried about having Colitis or Crohn’s Disease? Just check your own toilet bowl at home. No need to spend time going into the doctor’s office, giving blood and stool samples and then waiting weeks to get an answer.

In some cases, depending on your insurance plan, you may need to go through a gatekeeper and then have a series of tests to rule out the simplest issues before the doctor can authorize the more expensive types of blood tests. Well that will no longer be a problem.

And the cost of all of those tests, including the deductibles even when your insurance may cover the main costs, will be a thing of the past.

What about the Covid Virus you may ask? Yes, OutSense is working on a test for that too.

This will be the greatest home medical test since they came out with home pregnancy tests.

But what if I find this all too disgusting to do myself, you might ask. No worry. Just get someone else to do it for you like a family member.

Watch this video and see how easy it is to do yourself:

Doctors always talk about how many lives could be saved or suffering from sickness could be spared through early detection. Diseases like colon cancer are easily treatable if detected early enough. But not so easy to treat if people fail to get regular medical checkups.

Think of the late great Alex Trebek who we just lost this week. He suffered from pancreatic cancer which is the least survivable cancer only because it is never detected in the body until it is too late to treat. Now, who knows?

The new device could prevent such late diagnoses.

Founded in 2016, OutSense is an Israeli start-up that has developed an advanced technology for early detection of medical conditions. The company just brought in $2.2 million in a series A round led by Peregrine Ventures to help develop this new technology.

Its IoT Medical Device is a small item which you can attach to your toilet bowl just like a toilet bowl cleaner.

The IoT technology analyzes and diagnoses human waste from within a standard toilet bowl, and alerts caregivers of health deviations. The company’s database enables personalized care.

OutSense expects that in the future it will be able to offer big data analysis tools which could be used to extract new information on disease development.

“Our technology allows users and patients to have their excretions scanned automatically and immediately receive actionable insights based on the underlying chemical and physical composition,” explained Yfat Scialom, CEO of OutSense.

“Besides the medical impact, this solution also gives people new ways to improve their wellness, improve compliance with medications, and monitor diets and personal nutritional needs.”

The OutSense platform was clinically tested, and using advanced algorithms of image analysis and machine learning, demonstrated an accuracy of 90% in blood detection vs. the gold standard.

The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) statistical analysis confirmed the high accuracy of the system in a very significant manner; the Area under the ROC Curve (AUC) was 88.20% (95% CI: 75.82%-97.98%).
