I was under investigation by the New York City Board of Education’s (Before Mayor Bloomberg and the new Department of Education) office of Special Investigations and at that time it was known that Special Investigation was used for a crime and Board of Education investigations was not used for a crime. I was ordered not to contact anyone including students in the class where the allegations took place. I complied of course. I did contact a paraprofessional who had worked with me in another site to ask him to visit my last site to pick up my possessions that were left behind. That he did, but my immediate supervisor spoke to him as he asked permission to help me. The response showed bias toward me, in my opinion. She asked him “Why would you want to do that?” If someone had come to me and asked me what had happened at that time. I could have explained it and I probably would never have been put into the infamous “Rubber Room.”
At that time I contacted the New York Daily News and a reporter that I had worked with before on an article or two wrote up my comments on the Rubber Room. Those comments later were read by another reporter who would not do an article that I suggested and that reporter asked me not to contact her again. What prompted that was that part of the article in New York City hit the “cutting room” floor as the entire article which appeared in the Albany edition was too large. It got cut off and it made the article much worse than it seemed. I didn’t even make a big deal of the entire thing, because I knew the truth.
Years later the comment that I gave about people watching Jerry Springer’s television show and sitting around and doing nothing was quoted in the book by former New York City Chancellor Joel Klein. Yes I was quoted on page 39 of Lessons of Hope, a book that exposed the mistakes made by Joel Klein during those years. Okay I made some mistakes, too, in dealing with my students, but I had not done anything criminal and my students gave information without the proper context. I have told a lot of people that I am quoted in Joel Klein’s book, including one of the highest- ranking officials in Chicago (Arnie Rivera). Rivera had the book on his desk when I made a telephone call to him which I did so that I could help Chicago.

I followed orders, but now we are reading about how Brett Kavanaugh contacted classmates months (July before telling the public that he had found out about the matter on September 23 in an article by the New Yorker. There is no explanation for the actions taken that would contradict the Deborah Ramirez allegation. We hope that the F.B.I. will get to the bottom of this matter and do a great job. I know that the investigator in my case was not even aware of how the whole thing started indicating that he had had not done an “amazing job” even though I would stick my neck out to say that if Trump had been in charge of the department of investigations he probably would have given the investigator a ten.
