Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg celebrates family Shabbat evening with daughter Max and shared photos in a post that got over 360,000 likes and over 7,200 shares and 11,000 comments.

On December 25, after Mark Zuckerberg wished his followers a “Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah”, one commenter asked:  “But aren’t you an atheist?”

Zuckerberg replied in response: “No. I was raised Jewish and then I went through a period where I questioned things, but now I believe religion is very important.”

On Friday Zuckerberg shared Shabbat evening in his home and wrote: “For Shabbat tonight, we gave Max a kiddush cup that has been in our family for almost 100 years. Her great-great-grandfather Max got it after our family immigrated here and it has been passed down through our family ever since.”

Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan practice Buddhism. The couple welcomed their second daughter, August, two years after Maxima was born.

 

 

 

The young billionaires have vowed to donate most of their wealth to charitable causes. They founded Zuckerberg Chan Initiative and has pledged billions of dollars to improving life for their children’s generation with goals such as eliminating disease and for better education.
