Jews Best Educated In The World — Pew Research Says

Jews are better educated than any other major religious group in the world. This according to a new study from the Pew Research Center.

This comes as no surprise to Jews. As a community, they have always had a strong emphasis on education. Over the centuries when most people were still illiterate, Jews were sure to teach their children how to read and write Hebrew so that they could learn how to pray and be able to study the Tora. Study of the Tora is one of the most important commandments in the Jewish religion. So for the last two thousand years Jews have been sure to be educated enough to learn and understand Tora.

In the modern world this has been translated into the study of all subjects. And in Western countries religious Jews tend to send their children to Private Jewish schools where they learn religious subjects in addition to math, science and history. They become literate in two languages.

This, in part, explains why so many Jews have been successful in fields, such as law and medicine, which require a higher education. They have been trained to be good students and to have inquisitive minds.

Jews topped the Pew Research Center’s list with an average of 13.4 years of schooling per person. Christians came in second with an average of 9.3 years. Muslims were found to have an average of 5.3 years of school. The organization explained the disparities on where in the world people live. The vast majority of Jews, for example, live in either Israel or North America with most of the rest in Europe.

Muslims and Hindus, however, are more likely to live in third world nations where public education is not as advanced. They get on average half of the schooling as people in the West. But, the good news is that their levels of education are increasing. And the bad news for Jews is that among the younger generations the percentage of people holding post-secondary degrees has been shrinking.

Men were shown to be more likely to have a post-secondary degree than women edging them out with a 15% average worldwide against only 13% for women.

The study used census data from 151 different nations.
