Ian Schrager said, “The Sanya EDITION was conceived for the China of today and the China of tomorrow. The resort is a unique sophisticated vision and embodiment of a cosmopolitan China for all the world to see.”
All of the 500 guestrooms in the horseshoe-shaped hotel have ocean views. In addition, 17 hotel villas are nestled into a terraced hillside with ocean views, private pools, and pavilion spaces.
The Sanya EDITION is centrally located in Haitang Bay; 40 minutes from the Airport and downtown Sanya and 5 minutes from the China Duty Free Complex, The hotel is located on a 50-acre property, which features a private “ocean.” Here, gondolas transport guests to a floating restaurant and families enjoy beach side cafes and cabanas. The reception area has a lotus pool, a live bamboo grove and a curated art gallery displaying the work of renowned artists. At the meeting center, the separation between outside and inside disappears with teak-floored rooms and louvered wood panel walls opening onto a sunken courtyard and garden area.
The architect spoke with The New York Post about Chinese culture and how the new hotel will appeal to families. “They are very family oriented and we had to something that would be really fun, sophisticated and really cool.”
“China is so different. It’s very exotic — it was a bit of a crossword puzzle figuring out the place and where it is headed. This hotel really shows the world how cosmopolitan it is. It’s really spectacular, ” added Ian Schrager.
