The New Yorker is impressed with Natalie Portman’s performance: “Every actress who has assayed the role, including Jacqueline Bisset and Jaclyn Smith (even the names chime), must now make way for Natalie Portman.”

USA Today says, “The iconic first lady is given emotional complexity and rich understanding through a stirring and ambitious performance by Natalie Portman in director Pablo Larrain’s powerful drama. It’s less a biopic than an experimental character study — an effective one — looking at Jackie’s private life in the traumatic days following her husband’s assassination.”

The Hollywood Reporter says, “Extraordinary in its piercing intimacy and lacerating in its sorrow, Jackie is a remarkably raw portrait of an iconic American first lady, reeling in the wake of tragedy while at the same time summoning the defiant fortitude needed to make her husband’s death meaningful, and to ensure her own survival as something more than a fashionably dressed footnote. Powered by an astonishing performance from a never-better Natalie Portman in the title role, this unconventional bio-drama also marks a boldly assured English-language debut for Pablo Larrain, the gifted Chilean director behind such films as No, The Club and Neruda.”

Can’t wait for the Oscars! Don’t worry! Natalie Portman is already getting awards for her performance in Jackie. The Palm Springs Film Festival has awarded the Oscar winner its Desert Palm Achievement Award for “Jackie.”

“Natalie Portman truly brings to life one of this country’s most treasured public figures in the acclaimed new film ‘Jackie, ‘” Festival Chairman Harold Matzner said.

“Portman delivers a transformative and deeply human portrayal of the former First Lady following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, one of the most challenging moments in our nation’s history.”

And to top it all off, Natalie Portman is pregnant with her second child. The 35 year old actress spoke about her pregnancy with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” this week. Apparently people think she is further along in her pregnancy than she really is.

“I’m a small person in general. You show a lot faster and a lot more when you’re small, ” said Portman

“Everyone thinks I’m about to pop and about to give birth at any minute and I have months to go.”

So maybe 2017 will bring both a new baby and a new Oscar to Natalie Portman.
