Famed Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein is taking on Donald Trump. He is also taking on a new role with CNN.
If there is any journalist in America who can claim to be a genuine expert on the subject of a failed Presidency as well as the abuse of power by those in the White House it is Carl Bernstein. Together with partner Bob Woodward, Bernstein uncovered much of the corruption and abuses of office in the Richard Nixon Administration when he reported on the Watergate scandal for The Washington Post.

Carl Bernstein spoke out on CNN Monday against Donald Trump’s decision to fire the acting Attorney General Sally Yates. Yates was fired after she issued a directive to all Justice Department employees not to defend President Trump’s executive order which banned immigration to the United States for anyone from seven Muslim nations. Several Federal judges issued rulings blocking the ban as unconstitutional and it is up to the Justice Department to appeal these orders to higher courts.
“What’s happened here is that his presidency is in chaos and it’s apparent to all but most of his serious defenders and those who are his greatest advocates,” said Carl Bernstein.
“Republicans on Capitol Hill who I’m talking to who are doubting his abilities, doubting even his stability under pressure. This is an extraordinary series of events,” added Carl Bernstein on how even Donald Trump’s own party is concerned over his actions.

In other Carl Bernstein news, the Pulitzer Prize winner will serve as a contributing editor to a new cross-platform investigative reporting team which has been established by CNN. Bernstein has already been a contributor and commentator at CNN for three years.
“CNN needs to be an organization that breaks news, not just an organization that covers breaking news or talks about breaking news on television,” Andrew Morse, the executive vice president of editorial for CNN/U.S. and general manager of CNN digital worldwide, told NPR. “There’s no better way to do that than to invest in investigative reporting.”
“These news organizations that have huge budgets have not devoted historically the kinds of resources to investigative reporting that they are capable of,” said Carl Bernstein. “With this, CNN is making a statement that it is capable of doing this kind of work and devoting the kind of resources to it that this deserves. Hopefully, other networks will do the same. It’s good for journalism and it’s good for the people of the country.”
