The novel was first released back in 1987. Amazon and Lorre obviously hope to make people forget the movie based on “Bonfire of the Vanities.” That stinker came out in 1990 and starred Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis.

Chuck Lorre has a lifetime’s worth of work on television already under his belt. But this will be his first effort at a mini-series as well as his first show for live streaming as opposed to a television channel.

The creator/producer/writer sees himself now as someone who also helps others get their projects off the ground.

Lorre told Variety in an interview this week, “As much as my job now is to generate and to help generate scripts, I’m also looking around to see where the enthusiasm is, and support enthusiasm, support people who are excited about a story, a particular approach. People’s careers tend to take care of themselves. If they have a passion and they’re determined to write something that is very specific to their experience, then it will happen.”
