According to a new report from Save The Children, Israel ranks 17th out of 144 different countries worldwide on a list of nations where girls have the best chance to grow up to be independent modern women. The research was released on International Girl’s Day.
Israel was placed second out of all non-European nations listed coming in just behind New Zealand which came in at 16. Even the United States only ranked at number 32. Researchers took many factors into consideration including child marriage rates, adolescent fertility, maternal mortality (as an indicator of girls’ access to good-quality healthcare) women MPs (relative to male MPs) and the lower-secondary school completion rates.

This is further proof that Israel has become one the world’s most advance and egalitarian societies. Take that UNESCO!
The report was compiled as part of an effort to protect young girls around the world from all manner of abuse from forced child marriages to the human trafficking of sex slaves.
From the report’s introduction:
With more than 700 million women in the world married before their 18th birthday and one out of three of them married before they were 15, we need to work together – and work with girls – to ensure that every last girl is free to live, free to
learn and free from harm. This is only possible if we collectively pledge to advance girls’ rights to access education, to access information on sexual
and reproductive health rights, and to make their voices heard. But girls’ voices must not just be heard: they must also be acted on. This report shows us the way.
