A fisherman from the Palawan Island in the Philippines has kept in his home what may be the world’s biggest natural clam pearl ever found, worth over $100 million.
The giant pearl is 30cm wide (1ft), 67cm long (2.2ft) and weighs 34kg (75lb). It is bigger than the latest gigantic pearl found in the province in 2014, which weighs 24.7 kg, including the shells. According to Puerto Princesa City Tourism Officer Aileen Cynthia Amurao, the pearl was turned over to them by a man who found the it more than a decade ago when he was out fishing in Palawan waters. His boat’s anchor caught on the giant clam and he had to swim down to dislodge it.

The man, Amurao said, was not aware of the pearl’s value but kept it under his bed as a ‘luck charm’. However, since the man has been changing residency frequently, he decided to now entrust it to Amurao who then turned it over to the City Government.
