Iran’s Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan underlined his forces’ preparedness to confront Washington, calling the US the “Great Satan”,   the semi-official Fars News Agency reports.

“We consider the US and Israel as the main enemy and we prepare ourselves to confront the Great Satan, ” General Pourdastan told reporters on Sunday on the sidelines of Ground Force’s massive missile drills in the Central province of Isfahan.

Stressing that the US doesn’t dare to attack Iran, he said, “The US sought to attack Iran in 2001 but they were dissuaded given the Iranian Armed Forces’ preparedness.”

“After that, the Americans changed their method and created the terrorist groups which are helped by reactionary countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. But the ISIL and al-Nusra are small enemies, ” General Pourdastan underscored.

In relevant remarks on Saturday, General Pourdastan underlined the Armed Forces’ readiness to defend the country against any aggression, and said the enemies can never surprise the Iranian Army.

“The vigilant and conscious Iranian nation should know that their sons in the Islamic Republic’s army will never become surprised by enemies’ threats and they will make those who have threatened to regret their deeds, ” Pourdastan said, addressing a gathering in the Northern city of Gonbadkavous.

He stressed that the Army forces always monitor the threats not only at the bordering areas but also kilometers away from the Iranian borders.

Also, last month, Pourdastan underlined that the country’s integrated missile and radar systems are always monitoring moves and ready to fire and intercept hostile flying objects at any moment.

“Due to the guidelines of Supreme Leader (of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei), we are ready and capable to foil all types of threats, ” General Pourdastan said.

The Iranian Armed Forces are using all capacities, including good training, to promote their power against all possible challenges.

Also in April, the Iranian Ground Force commander said that the country’s army would go on alert if any hostile troops approach the country’s border, warning that the army’s threshold of action is 40km outside borders.

Addressing the rank and files of the Iranian Army Ground Force in Tehran, General Pourdastan said the Iranian Army is monitoring every move made in the region “and would show reaction once necessary”.

He further ensured the Iranian military forces’ full preparedness, saying that “the army would never be surprised”.

The General said the region is suffering from proxy wars, and reiterated that the army is fully ready to defeat any type of enemy in any kind of proxy war.

“We have drawn a 40km redline and we deal with any threat that approaches this redline, ” the Ground Force commander said.

Pourdastan and many other Iranian military officials have repeatedly warned that they would show tough reaction to any enemy that might approach the country’s borders from a good distance and before the enemy troops cross the border into Iran.

ISIL was in some areas only 100 kilometers away from Iran’s border last year, but was pushed back hundreds of miles away to Western Iraq with the help of Iranian advisors.

In January 2015, Pourdastan said the ISIL evacuated areas closer than 40km to the Iranian border after receiving relevant warnings from Tehran.

On Thursday Senior Iranian military commander Ahmad Karimpour boasted that under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini’s orders, Iran could “raze the Zionist regime [Israel] in less than eight minutes, ” according to the Iranian Fars news agency. Karimpour serves as senior adviser to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ elite unit al-Quds.

Karimpour’s statement arrives on the heels of a May 9 announcement by a senior Iranian general that two weeks before, Iran’s armed forces successfully tested a ballistic missile capable of reaching Israel, according to a Tasnim news agency report cited by Times of Israel.

In a September 9, 2015 tweet, Khameini suggested that Israel will not exist in 25 years time.

“After negotiations, in Zionist regime they said they had no more concern about Iran for next 25 years, ” Khameini tweeted. “I’d say: Firstly, you will not see next 25 years; God willing, there will be nothing as Zionist regime by next 25 years. Secondly, until then, struggling, heroic and jihadi morale will leave no moment of serenity for Zionists.”
