Anna, a short film by Israeli director Or Sinai, took home first place in the student competition at Cannes Film Festival on Friday.
The 24-minute-long film was shown at the Cinéfondation, and beat out 17 other finalists. Sinai’s win is a considerable achievement, seeing as there were no less than 2, 350 other student films from 277 film schools from around the world in the competition.

Starring Evgenia Dudina as Anna, the movie is based on a woman who has some alone time without her son for the first time in a long time. As she goes on a solo journey around her town, she tries to find a man whom she can be with, even if only for a short while.
Anna was Sinai’s graduation film, having completed her studies at the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem.
As an award for winning best picture, Sinai received €15, 000 and a guarantee that her first feature-length film, when completed, will be screened at the festival.
The second-place winner was an Iranian filmmaker who studied at the London Film School.
