US army building missile defense base in central Israel: report

According to security officials, the base would be permanently manned and prepared for emergency situations

According to Israeli website Walla the United States is building a fortified American missile defense base in the center of Israel that would be permanently manned and would be prepared for emergency situations.

The news website cited security officials who said the base is in advanced stages of construction and will be connected to the radar facility at Dimona, which is operated by the US Army.

The report comes after the US and Israel participated in a bilateral military exercise in February.

The exercise, Juniper Cobra, was designed to improve the cooperation and coordination between the US European Command (USEUCOM) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The exercise scenario that the two trained on was a simulation on ballistic missile defenses.
