When the Brazilian government decided to build smart cities from scratch, it looked to Israeli high-tech to provide the solutions. Three Israeli startups — Magos Systems, GreenIQ and Pixtier — were recently selected to take on the challenge.
Twelve Israeli startups made it to the final round of the 3C Smart Cities Challenge — a joint initiative of Planet Idea (Italy), SocialFare -Center for Social Innovation (Italy) and StarTAU – Tel Aviv University’s Entrepreneurship Center (Israel) – that was launched in order to generate social and technological impact.

The three winners are all developing disruptive technologies in solving specific problems of the smart city of the future.
First place winner Magos Systems designs and manufactures state-of-the-art staring radars that revolutionize perimeter and border security.
Innovative Smart Garden Hub, GreenIQ came in second for its smart garden revolution system. GreenIQ controls irrigation scheduling based on current and forecasted weather, saving up to 50 percent of water consumption.
And Pixtier cloud platform, that provides a dynamic and expanding 3D Map Server that enables smart cities to be more efficient during planning and management, took third place in the contest.
The 3C Smart Cities Challenge final pitches took place at the AWS PopUp Loft in Tel Aviv.
Planet Idea is building a smart city in Croatà, in Brazil. The three Israeli winners will be part of the first real prototype of a smart city for lower income population.
