Soccer is awash with cash and the English game has always been the epicenter of its financial power. However, in the most recent winter transfer window, the Premier League was usurped by China. Several high profile players including Alex Teixeira and Ezequiel Lavezzi made moves to the east. The latter is rumoured to have netted a weekly salary of over $500, 000 at Super League club Hebei China Fortune. All in all, the Chinese Super League spent a whopping $336.55 million on players during the winter transfer window compared to $271.42 million for the Premier League.
