Villa boss Garde has sent a transatlantic warning to Andy Lerner that the squad he splashed £55 million on in the summer needs major surgery.

The club’s powerbrokers are in New York spelling out a damning ‘rip it up and start again’ verdict from Garde on the team he inherited.

Villa are bottom of the table with just eight points and only one league win all season, at Bournemouth on the opening day.

Furious fans vented their anger on the players as they left Wycombe following the 1-1 FA Cup draw with the League Two side at the weekend.

Garde and his players can expect another bumpy ride from disgruntled supporters at the home game with Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Garde has evaluated what he has at his disposal and his views are not going to make pleasant reading for Lerner, with the Frenchman all but suggesting Villa are not good enough for the top flight and are doomed to a drop into the Championship.

The 53-year-old American is in talks with chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt, who have flown to the Big Apple for the crisis conference.

“I knew about that for a long time, it was planned the week before and then they have a lot of stuff to discuss like in every club, ” said Garde.

“I don’t know what exactly what they are talking about, but they are talking about the future of the club for sure.

“They know exactly what I wish. That’s all I can say. I have my own assessment on the team and the club. I have been here to make some changes and they know the way I would like to change. Let’s see.

“I am just telling you they know the situation of the team. They know the situation of the team and the club for a long time now.

“They know what I need to improve the team. When you buy some players, players who are already here for a few weeks or maybe years, can be helped by new players.”
