When Isabella Rossellini got a call from filmmaker David O. Russell in 2014 about a role in his new film “Joy, ” she was quite surprised.“I never even knew he thought of me, ” the 63-year-old actress said. Turns out, he was a big fan of her work in David Lynch’s 1986 cult-favorite film “Blue Velvet, ” in which she played a mysterious nightclub singer. “He said he wanted to work with me [for years], ” she said.
In “Joy, ” Rossellini joins Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, a group Russell worked together with in both “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012) and “American Hustle” (2013). “Joy” is loosely based on the life of Long Island-based Joy Mangano, inventor of the Miracle Mop and a QVC and Home Shopping Network star.
