Late last year, Shari Redstone had a chance to cash out of her family’s media empire.
Her father, 92-year-old Sumner Redstone, offered her a deal worth $1 billion for her 20% stake in National Amusements Inc., the holding company through which he controls media giants Viacom Inc. and CBS Corp., according to people familiar with the matter.
The deal, proposed in November 2014, would have required her to relinquish her right to become chairman of the two companies upon her father’s death, and not to contest the gifts Mr. Redstone had bestowed upon the two women who lived with him, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal…
