ISIS boss, Caitlyn Jenner, Vladimir Putin, among Time’s Person of the Year nominees

IT pretty much sums up the state of the world we live in when ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and US presidential hopeful Donald Trump are among the shortlist for Time magazine’s annual Person of the Year issue.

The winning candidate is a person, group or idea that “for better or for worse … has done the most to influence the events of the year”.

The other finalists include: Russian president, Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, transgender pioneer, Caitlyn Jenner, Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick, Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, and the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.

While the winner will be decided by Time magazine editors, readers were asked to cast their votes in an online poll. Ironically, the winner was Democratic presidential hopeful, Bernie Sanders, who didn’t figure on the official list.

Donald Trump has been a dominant force in US news this year, as a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination.
