Israel to open for the first time an official diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi-UAE

Israel will inaugurate for the first time an official – and visible – diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, accredited to the International Renewable Energy Agency, and not the UAE itself, officials told the Financial Times.

Israel’s foreign ministry confirmed the report, published in the Ha’aretz newspaper, on Friday.

Israel is opening its first diplomatic mission in the United Arab Emirates, its foreign ministry said  The development is the clearest sign yet of a growing political rapprochement with Gulf Arab states that were traditionally its sworn enemies.

The Jewish state will open an office in Abu Dhabi, the Emirati capital, accredited to the International Renewable Energy Agency, and not the UAE itself, officials told the Financial Times.

Dore Gold, director-general of Israel’s foreign ministry and a former senior adviser to Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, returned to Jerusalem on Thursday evening after several days in the UAE.

While in Abu Dhabi, Mr Gold attended the twice-yearly meeting of Irena, an intergovernmental organisation devoted to supporting countries’ transition to renewable energy,  Financial Times report.
