According to AS Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to revive the Premier League champions with a shock big-money move for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jose Mourinho’s side have served up a dismal defence of their title this term and Abramovich wants to return to the extravagant spending of his first few years at Stamford Bridge in order to resuscitate the club.

AS reports that Abramovich wants to sign Ronaldo and make him the flagship player of a new project at Stamford Bridge.

He is reportedly monitoring the Portuguese superstar’s current situation – he is aware that PSG are also keen on the 30-year-old – and is preparing an “irresistible offer” which will be transmitted to Ronaldo’s representative Jorge Mendes.

Abramovich is convinced that Ronaldo, with or without current Stamford Bridge boss Mourinho, would reinvigorate Chelsea. AS adds that Abramovich is willing to spend more than €100m to secure Ronaldo’s services, while he plans to raise close to €200m in funds through the sales of Eden Hazard, who is on Real Madrid’s radar, Oscar and Nemanja Matic.
