All of these happenings (most of them free of charge) “are a celebration of original Israeli illustration — a world of creation that exists on the seam between commercial design and conceptual art, ” according to the organizers.

Gift items, paper products, furniture, illustrated t-shirts and more will be available for purchase from emerging and world-renowned illustrators. Corporate sponsor Wix designed the event’s website in collaboration with illustrator Alon Braier.

Yuval Saar, chief curator and the initiator of Illustration Week, and editor of the online Portfolio design and culture magazine, relates: “Illustration Week, which has become a tradition, has created a platform for displaying illustration that did not exist in the past. The success of Illustration Week [in 2014] and its impact on creativity in the field in Israel can be seen in exhibits that will be held this year.”

Saar added that many of the exhibitors for 2015 “dealt in their works with questions of gender, sexual identity, couplehood, family, childhood and technology, and examined the boundaries of the concept of illustration. A great number of exhibits will provide new visual interpretation of stories for children and adults, and some of them will even display original visual books.”
