If you’re like me, then you leave open a large number of tabs in your browser at the same time. This can lead to problems such as a slowing down in the loading of new tabs that you open. Well Google has a solution offered as an extension for its Chrome browser called “The Great Suspender.”

There are all manner of great extensions these days. Like Ad Block Plus, which lets you block all sorts of ads which come with malware and are annoying to look at. Then there are extensions that let you hide the country in which you are located or pretend to be somewhere else. This comes in handy whenever you go to a website with videos that are only available for streaming in the U.S.

But too many open tabs is a problem that most people do not even realize that they have. Just try it yourself. Open more than 5 or 6 different websites at the same time in different tabs and then see how it affects your browsing.

So now The Great Suspender solves this problem. With it the user sets the amount of time after which the various open tabs are “suspended.” This helps by freeing up memory. So if you left a tab open and forgot about it then it will be suspended, meaning closed but still there. Then when you go back to it you simply click to reopen that page

According to Google, “The Great Suspender is a lightweight chrome extension to help reduce chrome’s memory footprint for users that like to have too many tabs open at the same time. This extension will automagically unload each tab while retaining its favicon and title text. A tab can be restored by clicking anywhere on the page when it is needed. This reduces the number of dom elements on the page and ensures no memory leaks or excessive javascripts are running.”
